RE: ScreenSaver doesn't work

 Actually, I am running Gnome as root.  I know this is the wrong way to do
it, but do it out of convenience.  (I was previously having trouble mounting
drives as a different user inside gnome.)

 I think I'll try doing it the 'right' way, and run gnome under a different
user than root.  Thanx everyone for the help...

One thing to keep in mind is that (depending on your settings) the
screensaver doesn't come on if you are logged in as root.
