If you are running on a superfast P-II @ 400 Mhz, you certainly won't
see a difference between i386 binaries and i586/i686 binaries. However,
if you're running on a Dual P5-133 like me, although it's dual, you
still need all of the help that you can get. i586 binaries tend to run
about 15 to 30 percent faster than i386 binaries. This matters when the
top speed of each of your processors is 133 Mhz. I know that my kernel
sped up when I rebuilt for i586-SMP.
