To mount a floppy through Gnome, wich i assume you have, since your on
its mailing list.

examples:
1.add the drive mount applet to you gnome panel. (Right-click over the
panel-add applet-etc.)
   you can then right click over the applet and edit the properties. You may
have to add the
   -t msdos in front of  the folder path if its a dos floppy. Not to sure on
that (Someone Please   correct me if im wrong)
  Now you should be able to mount your floppy via the applet

2.Bring up the Gnome Menu accessible from the desktop (Youll have to figure
this out on your own because of the fact that the methods for getting to
this menu varry depending on the WM)
select the Rescan devices from that menu. If you have the mnt/floppy folder
created and everything is working as should be then it should create a link
to that device on your desktop.
