gmc folder on the desktop

I managed somehow to remove the gmc file on my enlightened desktop and now
when I recreate it by right clicking and selecting new desktop launcher it
works fine the first time but after rebooting I click on it and it starts
but immediately goes away and the icon blinks out and then comes back.
What is the best way to get a stable gmc folder back on the desktop?
