This is an X-related issue, and X doesn't like it.  Raster beat this for 
animated pointers with Enlightenment by animating the watch at a location that 
followed the mouse pointer, and some applications (including one of mine) get 
around animating icons by mapping the icon as a pixmap and drawing to it 
directly from the application.

But X itself doesn't have a clue about animating anything =OZ
