Some of the guys were talking about Speech Recognition.
I just saw this on Linux Today.

Emacspeak is a fully functional audio desktop that provides
 complete eyes-free access to all major 32 and 64 bit
 operating environments.  

Bet there is a few Lines of source in there That would speed your Talk
to Gnome work along.
