gnumerics docs

The file functions.sgml in gnumeric/doc/C is full of mismatched tags.
My docbook installation spits out large numbers of error messages
about this. Correcting the sgml gets rid of these messages.
Are these mismatches supposed to be there? How are these sgml files
generated?
I suppose I'm using a rather intolerant version of jade. The output
of jade -v is:
jade:I: Jade version "1.2.1"
jade:I: SP version "1.3.3"
Does anyone know more about this?
