     you could check to see if esd is running ( the enlightened sound demon 
     which handles the sound of gnome and enlightenment ) - if it is you 
     could try unlocking it I think the command is esdctl unlock ( might 
     need to do that as root )
     
     not sure about the ethemes stuff as I cant get any of the other themes 
     to work - I understand that the theme design has gone through a lot of 
     changes in the last few snapshots - I presume this is why my ethemes 
     from the e15 section of e.themes.org dont work ?
     
     the "task list" is part of the pager, you can get enlightenment to 
     minimise as icons rather than disappear completely - there is a 
     checkbox in econf

Hum... just found the gnome-pager again, and started it. Both 
the pager and the buttons for my apps have reappeared (I still 
don't know why they disappeared in the first place though...).
     
Are the panel buttons part of the pager functionality?
     
Anyhow, as regards my previous post (assuming it arrives first!), 
my problems now are with the sound and enlightenment.
