Hi,
I've followd everything in this thread, since I have the same problems.
In addtion I can not play any of the gnome sound WAVs when WindowMaker
and gnome are both running. I also got input as a result of a post I
made to the WindowMaker list:

it

I had the same problem with the location of the default.session file
location. I copied it over and ran gnome-session which I confirmed made
~/.gnome/session. I then revised my .xinitrc file as such:
# panel
# exec wmaker
exec gnome-maker
~/.gnome/session:
-----------------

--sm-client-id 117f000001000092163490700000006290007
num_clients=3
I restarted, gnome began, but I still am unable to select anything in
the gnome control panel under "Window Manger". Only the Close button
and Help are active, with nothing available under help. There are no
buttons at all in the right hand part of the selection screen. The rest
of the control panel appears and works fine. I also started wmaker in an
xterm during this session and that made no difference as far as the
control panel was concerned. Does gnome control panel need an
installation of Enlightenment in order to make this panel active?
Thanks,
Glenn
