how do I configure Xclients etc ?

Hi,
Newbie question. Does anybody have step by step directions on
configuring the .Xclients and any other files I need to start using Gnome.
I have a workstation install of Redhat 5.2 and just downloaded Gnome 1.0 the
rpm stuff.
