problems compiling gnome-core newest version

I installed ORBit and the libs no problem (yes, newest version), but
when compiling the core, I get this:

jdweinst:/home/jeff/gnome-core-1.0.1# make
make  all-recursive
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/jeff/gnome-core-1.0.1'
Making all in intl
make[2]: Entering directory `/home/jeff/gnome-core-1.0.1/intl'
make[2]: Nothing to be done for `all'.
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/jeff/gnome-core-1.0.1/intl'
Making all in po
make[2]: Entering directory `/home/jeff/gnome-core-1.0.1/po'
file=./`echo es_DO | sed 's,.*/,,'`.gmo \
  && rm -f $file && PATH=../src:$PATH no -o $file es_DO.po
/bin/sh: no: command not found
make[2]: *** [es_DO.gmo] Error 127
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/jeff/gnome-core-1.0.1/po'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/jeff/gnome-core-1.0.1'
make: *** [all-recursive-am] Error 2
jdweinst:/home/jeff/gnome-core-1.0.1#

it says it can't find command "no". What do I need to fix this? BTW,
I'm running Debian 2.1, kernel 2.2.2, glibc, gcc 2.7.something, 2.7.2 i
think.  Thanks for your help.
