Gnome working except gnome-session

I found out what is going wrong with my install.  I had libs lurking
around my /usr/local/libs directory.  Now gnome apps work but I have to
start enlightenment first and then panel.  If I try to use gnome-session
x starts and I get the salt&pepper background but then it just exits.  I
notice there is a (null) that is printed to the console.  Other than
that gnome kicks butt.
