I had been fighting with one of my machines giving that problem.  My
problem turned out to be with egcs optimization.  My solution was to
recompile glib with NO OPTIMIZATION (i.e. 'export CFLAGS="-g"' before you
configure), and then recompile imlib.  Close each GNOME problem and
restart it, and things should be working.  If that doesn't fix it, write
again, and I'll try to help isolate the problem.
