As I said, I was unaware the control-center was in a 1.0.x release. And
as I also said, GMC's versioning is based on the underlying MC's
version, and MC was around for a long time before Gnome.

Sigh... I wasn't denegrating problem reports because there weren't any:

Gmc core dumps. Ok, what were you doing when it core dumped. What does
gdb say? What is the exact version you installed? Did you compile it or
use a deb/rpm?

If you are going to report a problem, report enough details to help,
don't just say "it dies on me".

I used Window Maker with Gnome for weeks until I switched to E. So, E is
most certainly *not* required to use Gnome. While using Gnome and Window
Maker, I also declined to run Gmc because I didn't want desktop icons.
So no, Gmc isn't required either. They tell you to install them because
it's easier to get around with a radio and a dashboard clock than not.
Can you go the other route? Of course. It's just that the E/Gmc route is
the recommended one.
