Enlightenment != Gnome

Because E does not require Gnome, it only adds itself to your startup.  If
there is a problem with the way it adds itself, you should probably send
a bug report to the maintainer of E, but E should not be expected to add
the startup commands for Gnome to your .xinitrc

There are some problems with gmc not being started automagically by gnome-session.
Try clicking on "FootMenu:File Manager" to start it.
