Thank you very much! I feel sorry for any just-new-to-Linux people with
this problem, since I did have to libtool the db distribution by hand in
order to build the shared library, but after building it -- no more
gnome-gen-mimedb segfault!
As far as I'm concerned, this is the canonical fix -- all of the other
e-mail I got (I did appreciate it BTW, folks) -- were from people who
solved the problem by disabling gnome-gen-mimedb altogether (clearly not
the most desirable solution).
