Need help with gnome-1.0

Help I am getting gnome midnight commander crashing all the time
the error I get is as follow.

Gdk-ERROR **: BadPixmap (invalid Pixmap parameter)
  serial 10644 error_code 4 request_code 56 minor_code 0

aborting...

does anyone know what is wrong? I downloaded rpms of gnome-1.0
and installed it on to rh5.2
