Thanks Kevin, using rpm -Uvh --nodeps --force *
in the directory of 0.99.3 rpm's worked! I am now able
to play around with GNOME ...
At this point in time, I'm playing around with GNOME on a work
machine, and when it's it a bit more stable, I'll put in on
my home machine (usually, it would be the reverse, but the work
machine is a lab testing machine used to dual boot Windoze NT &
Redhat 5.2). I guess I'm not so concerned about "breaking" other
packages, since I can always reinstall from the 5.2 CD.
