Ric, dude, you're worried about optimizing a 100kb/s data stream?
Like, let it go, man; it's not big enough to worry about.
I think that everyone's 200MHz Pentium machines can handle an extra
context switch or two, or even a spurious main-memory copy of a page
or two...
