Panel hiding is really slow...

What happened lately to the panel explicit hiding behaviour? It's
really slow and jumpy. I'm using a gnome-aware icewm. This worked a lot
better a couple of months ago. I don't hide my panel much so I didn't
notice it until now...
Do I have to run gnome on a PII 450 or is it some kind of bug? :)
