Hi,
I finally compiled enough components to be able to run Gnome (I think).
I'm trying to do so on my Slackware 3.6 system.
The last line in my .xinitrc looks like that:
>-------SNIP-------<
mwm & exec gnome-session
>-------SNIP-------<
Back in the text console from which I started X, I see the following
output:
>-------SNIP-------<
(--) SVGA: XAA: General lines and segments
SESSION_MANAGER=local/CaveMaus:/tmp/.ICE-unix/444,tcp/CaveMaus:1914
Priority 00 : Starting Id = default0
Priority 00 : Cloning Id = default0
Priority 00 : Registering Id = 11c0a80101000091835657500000004440000
Priority 05 : Starting Id = default1
unrecognized option: --sm-client-id
unrecognized option: default1
/dev/dsp: Device or resource busy
fatal error configuring sound, /dev/dsp
initializing...
>-------SNIP-------<
But nothing ever happens. I seem to remember that the line about /dev/dsp
is missing the very first time I run startx after a reboot (instead I hear
the sound of esd initializing)
Sometimes, I see some more lines of 'Priority
XX: Registering/Starting/Cloning...' but nothing really happens.
Could someone please help me out here?
TIA,
Juergen
PS: I'm running Slackware 3.6 (libc5 based)
