X display open error

Hi:

I have just put RH6 on a machine and after twinking around with the
NIC, amd etc, all users can telnet to mount their home via NFS. However,
when users try to login in on console via the login window, there is no
login error, the window disappears as if trying to load something but then
ticks out the user with a new login window . 

It appeared to be the some X display open error, as one tried to run the
exec gnome-session or whatever other windows manager. However, login at
the run level login prompt works fine.


Does this sound familiar to someone? how should the right  startup script
looklike?
