Any idea what the magic combo is for getting a working set of CVS builds?

Sorry if this sounds clueless. I had a working CVS-based Gnome
installation until recently. I was using Glib 1.2.6, GTK+ 1.2.6,
gnome-libs gnome-libs-1-0 and gnome-core HEAD. I think everything
else was pretty much the most current checkins.
A few days ago things deteriorated. I started getting segmentation
faults an most everything (panel, gmc, etc.). Since then I have been
trying older versions of various modules, but have failed to find
a combination which will give me a working Panel, etc.
I am currently trying the following:
glib 1.2.6 (from RPM)
gtk+ 1.2.6 (from RPM)
audiofile 1.1.1.3 FOR_PANEL
esound 1.3 FOR_PANEL
ORBit 1.8 HEAD
Imlib 1.18 HEAD
gnome-xml 1.3
gdk-pixbuf 1.3
gconf 1.2
gnome-libs 1.14 gnome-libs-1-0 (branch 1.14.4)
gnome-core 1.1 gnome-core-1-0 (branch 1.1.8)
Is there a combination I ought to be using?
Thanks for helping!
Miles
