Error message unknown to me

One new error message I notice on the X/Gnome error output is
subshell.c: couldn't get terminal settings: Inappropriate ioctl for device
What is this ? Is this related to Gnome ? (I'm trying to sort out
several problems, if all was working fine I would not report this)
