gnome-session with no sound ???

well, for me using RPMS, it doesn't work at all : gnome session exists disgracefully
saying it cannot use the sound

Otherwise, doing the other way :

exec enlightenment 

Then launching panel from an xterm makes everything to be VERY slow as all applications
are trying all different possibilities to run esound.

Do we HAVE to have a sound card to run gnome today ?
