midnight commander strikes again

Well, I have to say I love gnome but, although I appreciate that a lot
of work has gone into it, gmc has to be it's weakest element.

I have v4.5.26 installed and decided to try copying files from my local
machine to an archiving machine via ftp. I opened up one window localy
and another with a local ftp URL and used drag and drop between them to
move files from my PC to the server. All was going swimingly until I
dragged 3 files from my local archive directory into the remote 'X'
directory and dropped them. The ``copy in progress'' popup did not
appear and my remote directory became empty.

Thinking this was just a display problem, I re-scanned the directory
- still empty, I then logged into other machine via telnet and checked
the directory - 'X' didn't even exist!!! I don't know what it did, but
our archive directory of X apps has gone missing! bummer, back to
backups (I hope)

Other problems I have noticed with gmc are:

1. The progess box on ftp copying does not seem to correspond to the
ftp transfer status.

2. The x/y (I'm assuming file x of y files total) goes up to 8/5 etc
which seems a bit strange.

3. gmc seems to be single threaded, so as soon as you do anything
requiring a bit of time (ie a network connection) ALL of your other
gmc windows and icons refuse to re-draw or do anything else.

4. When I install new icons on the desktop the icon images sometimes
get mixed up and only a re-start will fix them.

5. I am using enlightenment as a window manager, and I have six virtual
desktops. Elastic bands, mouse right click and moving icons around
only works on desktop one.

I have been out of the mail group for a week so I hope I am not
re-iterating other peoples points.

Adam.
