need help with glib and gmc

I'm trying to patch up my current gnome installation. I've gone from the
original version that shipped with RH5.1 (think it's 0.13) up to 0.27 and
now to 0.30.

Finally got most everything working EXCEPT gmc.  It's apparently looking
for an older (?) version of glib?  When I'm in X and I run gmc in a xterm I
get:

gmc: error in loading shared libraries
libglib-1.1.so.0: cannot open shared object files.

???????   I've looked but can't seem to find anything older than glib-1.0.4.

What am I missing here??? :)
