| I have been trying to build the gnome-core, but when I do this I get the error that in the subdirectory panel it can not build the orbit-applet-lib.c. The reason given is that it can't find orb/orbit.h  and this is true, I can't find it either.

Check out ORBit from CVS (or get the tarball and unpack), build it
and install it.
