hmmm..
you know gdm erally will need more features.  I hope more are planned.
xdm allows you do run any program and kill it upon entrance by the user.
also, if the entrance gui could be mode configurable it'd be great.

I mean for instance, my xdm is setup this.

there are numerous groups of setup files, and a script selects a 
group randomly (group = file specifying a transparent xpm to be overlaid
over the login window to make it look spiffy, programs to run in the
bg, etc, and a specific Xresources file), and kills the running processes
when a user enters.

if this configurabilty was available in gdm, it'd be much better.
