I'm still tring to compile all the stuff for gnome. I've gotten to the
point where I'm finally trying to compile the actual gnome stuff.

Trying to compile gnome-libs-0.0.30.1 gives an error on
GdkEventDropDataAvailable in gnome-color-separator.c in directory
libgnomeui. I've checked the versions and recompiled all from clean, after
re-./configure-ing, in what I think is the right order, and ran ldconfig -v
in between each make install, and even rebooted the machine a lot. I can't
get past this point and keep getting the same error no matter what else.

I looked in all .c and .h files under /usr, and nowhere can the declaration
of GdkEventDropDataAvailable be found. It seems to me that it should be
defined where the other gtk+ types are declared, because that is where all
similarly named types seem to be, at least to me. I'm trying to compile and
use the latest versions: gtk+-1.1.3, glib-1.1.4, gnome-libs-0.0.30.1.

There is a reference to drop_data_available in gnome-core-0.30/ChangeLog,
but it doesn't explain my problem.

I have been following the instructions at
(http://www.gnome.org/start/gnometar.shtml), and they call out versions
gtk+-1.1.2 and glib-1.1.3, but the versions I am trying to use are clearly
indicated as the most recent versions, and they are only one minor-most
revision number removed from those indicated, so it is hard to believe this
could be the problem. Well, I guess I could believe it, but the possibility
seems more remote than others.

I guess I'll download these other versions, and see if the results are any
different. How mindless. How can I be smarter?
