configure Error

Hi! I'm new to the gnome-list and have a problem compiling all gnome
components. I receive the following error while running 'configure' or
'autogen.sh' in the directory that the source is in:

	creating Makefile
	sed: file conftest.s1 line 48: Unterminated `s' command

This error repeats for every Makefile. I had assumed that I had an old
version of sed but I checked and I only have sed-3.02-1. I have also tried
the tarball of sed from the gnu ftp site.
