This is an odd one.

I think one of the cvs servers seems to be a little bit broken.
(cvs.gnome.org refers to a number of servers to help balance the load).

This is just my unfounded speculation, it may well be wrong.

Anyway, try updating your client to cvs 1.10 and checking the gnome module
out again. This worked for me.
