Help: background-properties eating all my CPU time

Hi,

Does anyone know why background-properties is eating 98 percent of my CPU
usage?

Im new to Linux, and was wonderting why X was so jerky, After I discovered
the wonders of top I found background-prop at the top of the list. I removed
packground-properties from my .xinitrc script and bingo, things were much
smother and faster.

How to I fix background-propties?
Do I need background-properties?
What does it do?
