Gnumeric implements various specialized items (the grid, the bars, the
cursor and something else).  

Gnome-Icon-Item, used in the IconList to display editable filenames is
also a specialized item (but note that this one is less "correct" that
other items, as it makes a lot of assumtions on which contexts it will
be used on).
