giflib rpm not correct?

Has anyone else found something odd about the giflib rpm?
I compiled a new imlib today and noticed that giflib wasn't one of the 
dependencies.... And so I checked all the programs that are installed
with giflib (presumably making use of its functionality...) Not one
of them has a reference to libgif in ldd's output.  I think they're
linked against the static libgif... Because there's something wrong with
libgif.so (Looked at with objdump -p under redhat linux, you will notice 
libgif.so doesn't have an SONAME entry, for instance...)

I'll download and have a look at the srpm tonight or tomorrow, but I wanted
confirmation that there's something wrong.
