Error executing gnome applications

I am running slackware 3.5 - linux 2.0.25
I am using pgcc 2.90.29 ( egcs 1.0.3a ) and libc6 2.0.6
I grabbed all the needed gnome modules from CVS and they compiled
fine.
When I attempt to execute anything I get this error:

**ERROR**: could not allocate 134217728 bytes
Abort

This is on all gnome appications.  And the number of bytes stays the same.
Someone also suggested that it could be because of ORBit, but I dont have
that installed.
Any ideas?
