has this project considered a sound api yet? It would be useful at least
in terms of user feedback (unobtrusive, short sounds to emphasise user
interactions).

As far as networking the sound goes, perhaps it could use nas style
redirection (based on X displays) so the audio feedback follows the
application. There is not much point networking beyond that though if gtk
itself can't use multiple X displays. Tying the audio to the xserver (ie.
making sure they run on the same machine) will simplify the api also: to
the programmer, it will look just like a non-networked app, because the
audio networking is as transparent as the graphic networking.
