cvs log

So with the anoncvs access, I cannot do cvs log b/c this "requires
write access to the repository".  I forget why this is (b/c it writes
to the history file??), but it doesn't seem like it needs to be this
way (i.e., I'm really *not* changing anything by getting the log!),
and getting the commit messages is one of the nice things about cvs
access.

Can it be changed?
