Latest gettext for GTK+ from CVS?

I'm having trouble with autogen.sh in the latest versions of gtk+ in
CVS.  It's failing with some missing macros that seem to be gettext
related (AM_LC_MESSAGES was one, I think, I forget the other, I don't
have it right in front of me at the moment).  Anyway, I got and
installed gettext from a GNU mirror (version 0.10-- the only one they
had).  It didn't seem to have the missing pieces in it anywhere.  Is
there a newer gettext than that that I need?  Where do I find it?  I've
checked FAQs, etc., and haven't seen this mentioned.

FWIW, this is not on Linux, but on DG/UX, an SVR4-like UNIX from Data
General.  I have built gtk+ successfully in the past on this system
(versions 1.0.6 and 1.1.5 from ftp.gtk.org built ok, but 1.1.9 from the
same source fails during configure with apparently gettext-related
problems similar to the ones I'm having with the latest-in-CVS
version).
