This is probably what they are complaining about:

andersen:/home/andersen % ee
Unable to connect to server port 35091
This generally means that the program could not talk to the esound server

This just means that they should have compiled gnome-libs w/o first
compiling and installing esound. Then this wouldn't happen. Or they
compile gnome-libs w/ esound support, and then remember to start esd
before running gnome apps...
