Panel connect problem

I just tried to figure out whats wrong with the panel.
I have gnome-session in my .xinitrc file.

The problem is that the panel will not start the applets from my
last session. 

It give me errors like:

 *** WARNING *** could not get name service

and the panel will exit...

This sound like the panel starts before gnome-name-service has
succefully initiated on my system.

My system is:

Pentium 150/Linux 2.0.36

Gnome 0.99 (tar packets)
ORBit 0.3.90 (tar packets)

And yes I have tried to remove .gnome* severals times to see whats wrong
but nothing helps :-/
