I installed OS/2 many years ago - before Linux came along. I remember
that REXX files were compiled and stored in a kind of resource fork by
HPFS (it worked on FAT systems too, I think). The REXX code was only
recompiled when the source was newer than the resource fork. Actually,
I had wondered a couple of weeks ago if we could do a similar thing with
Perl scripts, but we still might be able to. I couldn't find a
reference to this in my printed references, but I think IBM's online
REXX reference made mention of it. I'm not sure if any other programs
used that part of the fs or not. It's been a while.
