I am almost certain this is due to having an older version of imlib installed.
Is it imlib-1.1 from ftp.labs.redhat.com/pub/imlib by any chance?

Do you remember where the pointer to this was?  we should change it to reflect
something more usable (or someone at redhat labs should replace that file...)

You should be able to find a snapshot of the imlib in the CVS repository in
ftp.labs.redhat.com/pub/gnome/devel/latest
