Hi,
Excellent. This is exactly the sort of thing we want to work on.
I think there are several steps we need to take:
- We have a CVS server we can use for shared stuff. We will be
doing a read-only mirror to Gnome and KDE servers so people
can access it easily, assuming that turns out to be easy to set up.
This will go live RSN.
- Apparently Miguel and Torben have talked about sharing IDL
in the past, agreed on module names, and stuff like that.
We could probably use a summary here.
- We need to talk about and decide on the IDL for specific
interfaces. That's the main purpose of this list.
- The hard one: we need not only shared IDL, but a common way to
obtain a server implementing the given interface, and a way
for users to configure which server will be used. In Gnome,
we have a 'libgnorba' library that does this. But it's
Gnome-specific.
So, we need input from the CORBA-heads on this, as soon as possible.
It is really almost pointless to standardize IDL unless we're working
on this as well.
Please add to the list if you can think of anything. I think it would be
productive to go ahead and chat about the IDL for specific interfaces, as
long as people are willing to maintain a web page or frequently repost the
current draft interface while we're waiting for the CVS server to go up.
Havoc
