Sounds like this patch is needed, and fixing an important bug: lack of
docs, which should be fixed before GNOME 2.8.1.
Since, according to your description, the patch cannot go without the
added message, it seems that it is a necessity.
Thus, the patch has my string freeze approval. Go for it.

If you can manage to do that, fine, just let translators know that you
will do it and when in case you should decide to do it, so that we can
avoid CVS conflicts and the like.

If not, please let translators know when the patch has landed in CVS, so
they know when they are supposed to update their translations.
