Probably some recent changes in gnome-vfs, gtk+, gedit and
other modules. Gedit, for instance, had some strings
reverted to a previous state. And the same gtk+ branch is
used for GNOME 2.6 and 2.8.

This is what I think might have happened. Danilo, Christian
or Carlos can explain better than me.
