I don't doubt you'll get some useful answers from people on this list,
but general gtk i18n coding questions are probably better served by the
gtk-i18n@gnome.org mailing list
(http://lists.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gtk-i18n-list).
This list (gnome-i18n@gnome.org) is more aimed at the translation and
localization of GNOME applications.
