actually, I did exactly what you said...
I CD'd to /usr/share/locale/he/LC_MESSAGES
he directory contained the following files:

diffutils.mo  gnome-desktop-2.0.mo  libgnomeprint-2.0.mo  xchat.mo
eel-2.0.mo    gnome-session-2.0.mo  texinfo.mo
gawk.mo       gtk20.mo              wget.mo

and I deleted them all... my .xinitrc says:
