Have you been in contact with <gnome@poli.pt>? If you have and they
really have stopped working on translations I don't see any problem with
just naming you the new coordinator for the portugese translation
effort.

If the old team has stopped working on the translations they might have
cvs accounts that should be transferred, or deactivated... Anyone from
the old pt team here?
