Alpha Release Status

Hey all,

Thanks to Michael Meek's work on Thursday and Friday last week, much of the
developer platform is ready to roll (gtk+ family, bonobo, etc). Jacob,
Anders, Bill H. and Havoc have all released platform packages far earlier
than the deadline.

Only two desktop packages have been released so far. Kevin V. has released
libgtop, and Jacob (who's been far ahead throughout the entire release
process) has released bug-buddy - unarguably the most important application
for the alpha. ;)

In case anyone is fearing total ftp meltdown upon running the install-module
script, here's how to do it:

  install-module --pre-gnome2 --package gnome-pants-1.1.tar.gz \
    --old gnome-pants-1.0.tar.gz

(You can still use --earthquake if you want.)

Please remember that the release team's schedule is based on Australian
Eastern Standard time, which means you have up to 22 hours less time than
you thought to release. [1] GO GO GO!

Thanks everyone,

- Jeff (already sent this to desktop-devel)
